As the leading car seat provider, here at Halfords we like to think we’re clued up when it comes to child safety.

With changes to the law due to come into effect, we want to make sure you’re in the know before you go!

What’s changed?

Whilst this new legislation hasn’t been officially confirmed, by December these changes may have been actioned. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Under the current law, a child can travel on a booster seat from 15kg upwards, however the new proposal would mean a booster seat can only be used from 22kg, which is about the age of a nine year old.
  • A cushion booster is a simple, backless seat that helps position children safely for a seatbelt to be secured. Whereas their high back counterparts come with side safety features for reduced side impact in an accident. They are also a comfier alternative for children during longer car journeys.
  • We advise keeping your child in a high back booster for as long as possible, and up to the maximum weight of 36kg before changing to a cushion booster.
  • Whether you have purchased your child car seat from Halfords or a different retailer, before the changes are confirmed stick to the weight guide on your current seat to ensure safety whilst travelling.

If you’re looking to upgrade your current child car seat, whether your child is ready for a booster or you have a new addition to the family, we offer a great range of seats for each age, including five new Halfords own developed models. Along with our expert buyers, our in house design team have refreshed and updated the range with quality components, ensuring that they comply with the new legal constraints.
