Ever wondered how much distance to leave when overtaking a cyclist while driving? With the help of driving instructor Blaine Walsh, Chris Boardman explains how you can do it safely. Watch the video and read on to find out more!

Produced by the Bicycle Association and co-funded by British Cycling, the video refers to rule 163 of the Highway Code, which says that you need to give cyclists as much space as you would a car. But of course, it’s not just the law – it’s common sense!

Chris and Blaine take us through some examples of how to safely overtake cyclists (including groups of riders), and explain why it makes sense to give them some extra room as you drive past.

Enjoyed watching ‘SPACE’? Take a look at ‘SIDE BY SIDE’ to learn why cyclists sometimes ride two abreast!
